Wiggs CPA Tax & Accounting is hiring an Experienced Seasonal Tax Preparer to own 100 to 150 individual and business tax returns from start to finish this tax season. This is a 100% virtual, U.S.-based independent contractor role paying $30 to $45 per hour based on experience, with paid training and an end of season performance bonus of up to 10%.

Wiggs CPA Tax & Accounting is a 100% virtual tax planning and accounting firm supporting small business owners, real estate investors, and individuals across the United States. During tax season, we prepare individual and business tax returns with a strong focus on service-based business owners and real estate investors. Outside of tax season, we provide proactive accounting and tax planning, including bookkeeping, payroll, quarterly tax planning, and year-round CPA support.

We are looking for an Experienced Seasonal Tax Preparer with at least three years of tax preparation experience who can take ownership of assigned returns from start to finish. You will review tax documents, identify missing information, prepare accurate federal and state returns, communicate directly with clients, and escalate complex matters when needed. You will manage 100 to 150 tax returns during the season, based on your experience and return complexity.

We want a long-term relationship. Candidates interested in returning for multiple tax seasons are strongly preferred, and part-time or full-time opportunities may open as the firm grows.

Schedule

  • 100% virtual
  • 5 to 10 hours per week of paid training beginning in late October or early November
  • 40 to 50 hours of weekly availability during tax season from mid-January through April 15
  • Additional availability during peak periods from February through April 15 is preferred
  • Weekend availability as needed during peak tax season
  • 5 to 10 hours of weekly availability from April 15 through mid-May based on remaining returns and workload

Compensation

  • $30 to $45 per hour based on experience
  • End of season performance bonus opportunity of up to 10% of compensation

  • Opportunity for additional part-time or full-time work as the firm grows

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of tax preparation experience
  • Schedule C and Schedule E experience
  • Experience working with service-based business owners
  • Extremely detail-oriented and analytical with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable communicating directly with clients
  • High integrity, positive attitude, adaptable, coachable, and a team player
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Microsoft Office and Google Workspace experience
  • Proficient in speaking and reading English
  • Must be U.S.-based

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or EA designation highly preferred
  • Experience preparing Form 1120-S S Corporation and Form 1065 partnership tax returns
  • Drake Tax experience highly preferred
  • QuickBooks Online navigation experience
  • Accounting, finance, or business background
  • Illinois or Colorado tax experience

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals, single member LLC owners, independent contractors, service-based business owners, and real estate investors
  • Prepare Schedule C and Schedule E tax returns
  • Prepare S Corporation, partnership, and C Corporation returns based on experience
  • Take ownership of assigned tax returns from document review through completion, including client follow-ups, research, and resolving routine tax matters independently
  • Review and organize tax documents to confirm all necessary information has been received
  • Communicate directly with clients throughout the tax preparation process
  • Follow up with clients on missing documents, open items, and tax-related questions
  • Help clients understand their tax returns and reporting requirements
  • Review and assist with creating supporting tax workpapers and documents needed to prepare accurate returns
  • Create detailed video walkthroughs for clients reviewing their completed tax returns when needed
  • Assist with tax preparation onboarding calls when needed
  • Research and interpret complex tax matters as needed
  • Stay informed about tax law changes that may impact client filings
  • Maintain the confidentiality of client information and follow applicable tax compliance standards
  • Incorporate review feedback and continuously improve accuracy and efficiency throughout tax season
  • Collaborate with team members to meet deadlines throughout tax season
